AHSAA Mourns the Passing of Michael Messina (Class of 1957)

Michael MessinaFormer Alhambra Mayor and Councilmember Michael Messina passed away on April 10, 2015, at the age of 75 following a brief battle with cancer. A founding Board Member of the Alhambra High School Alumni Association (AHSAA), Mr. Messina lived in Alhambra nearly all of his life, graduating from Ramona Elementary School and Alhambra High School in 1957. Mr. Messina was twice elected to the Alhambra City Council, serving from 1979 to 1982 and again from 1983 to 1986. He served as Mayor of Alhambra in 1982 and 1986.

Mr. Messina is survived by his wife of 54 years, former Alhambra mayor and current Alhambra councilwoman Barbara Messina, their three daughters, Teresa Juarez, Maryann Messina-Doerning and Kristen Puccinelli; eight grandchildren; and a sister, Marlene Waller. Mr. Messina was predeceased by his daughter Kathleen Messina.

A mass was held Friday, April 17, 2015, at All Souls Church in Alhambra and Mr. Messina was interned at Calvary Cemetery in East Los Angeles. Donations can be made to Children's Hospital Los Angeles, 4650 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90027, in memory of Kathleen Messina.
